Local Volunteer Organization Brings Maternal And Neonatal Tetanus Awareness to People Across the Country & the Globe
Watseka, IL, January 30, 2014 — The Watseka Kiwanis Club is sponsoring an event on Saturday March 1, 2014 at Celebrations in Watseka. The purpose of this event is to bring awareness, and raise funds to support The Eliminate Project. The goal of the Eliminate Project is to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus worldwide.
The March 1st event will feature a chili supper and euchre tournament at Celebrations, corner of 2nd and Oak streets in Watseka. The supper will run from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The euchre tournament begins at 6:00 p.m.
The cost for the chili supper is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Entry to the euchre tournament is $20, and cash prizes of $100 for first place and $50 for second place will be awarded.
With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year.
To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million to successfully accomplish this goal.
